Kwame Building Group (KWAME) of St. Louis raised $80,000 during their fifth annual Kwame Foundation Golf Tournament held August 28 at the Norman K. Probstein Golf Gourse at Forest Park in St. Louis.
The KWAME Foundation endows scholarships at colleges and universities that improve educational opportunities for minorities, providing approximately $150,000 a year in scholarships and grants.
“We ensure a stronger minority presence in the future workforce by helping minority students achieve their higher educational goals,” said Tony Thompson, president and CEO of KWAME.
Last year, the Kwame Foundation golf tournament netted more than $80,000 for the Foundation’s scholarship program. To date, the Kwame Foundation has committed $670,000 toward a goal to endow $1 million in scholarships over the next nine years. Currently, the Foundation endows 15 scholarships and has developed an active local mentoring program for high school students.
All the proceeds support the Foundation’s scholarships, which include:
• The Betty L. Thompson Scholarship at Washington University’s School of Medicine
• The Robert F. Henry Memorial Scholarship at Washington University’s School of Engineering
• The Kim & Anthony Thompson Scholarship at Webster University
• The Kwame Building Group Scholarship at Jackson State University
• The Mary E. Nelson Diversity Scholarship at The University of Missouri’s School of Law
• The Betty L. Thompson Scholarship at the Interdenominational Theological Center
• The Kristin Thompson Scholarship at Barnes-Jewish Hospitals’ School of Nursing
• The Michael Thompson Scholarship at Fontbonne University
• The Saint Louis Black Repertory Theater Scholarship at Saint Louis University’s School of Arts and Sciences
• The Kwame Building Group Scholarship at Ranken College.
