Collaboration with Collegiate 100
Mike McMillan, License Collector of the City of St. Louis, has awarded three scholarships to Harris-Stowe State University students in collaboration with the Collegiate 100. Scholarship recipients were chosen based on
their academic excellence and community service.
“The Collegiate 100 plays a critical role in the development of future leaders in our city and the region,” said McMillan.
“These awards offer an opportunity for advanced training and study at the Harris-Stowe campus, as well as an opportunity to intern at the License Collector’s office. There are many opportunities for professionals interested in public service, and we are happy to help these local students prepare for their careers.”
“I am honored to receive one of these scholarships, and I look forward to using my education and abilities to contribute to the well being of my community, city and beyond,” said scholarship-recipient Kalifa Gray.
The Collegiate 100 is an auxiliary organization of the 100 Black Men of America, Inc. It is comprised of African-American male and female college students on university campuses across the country. The purpose of
the Collegiate 100 is to implement the mentoring and tutoring programs of the national organization. The collegiate members assist the parent organization with the development of the social, emotional, educational,
and physical needs of black youth who have few positive role models in the communities where they live.

College grad gift from Jennings
College graduates nationwide from the classes of 2005, 2006, and 2007 are eligible for a very special Graduation Gift from the Ferguson Neighborhood Improvement Program (FNIP).
The gift is a grant of $2,500 that may be applied toward the purchase of a home in Ferguson. The gifts are sponsored by FNIP and UMB Bank of St. Louis.
For the fourth consecutive year, FNIP is offering the Graduation Gift to two college graduates. In order to apply for the program, a graduate must have completed a bachelor’s, master’s or doctoral degree from an accredited four-year college or university in the United States since May 2005. The gift may be applied to either the down payment or closing costs. Winners will have one year to redeem the gift.
Ferguson’s proximity to large corporations like Boeing, Emerson Electric, and Express Scripts, and to the University of Missouri-St. Louis and St. Louis Community College Florissant Valley, and the affordability of homes in the north county region of the St. Louis area, makes it an attractive location.

The deadline for submitting applications is June 13. The gifts will be awarded in a special drawing at Ferguson City Hall on June 15.
