Ranken Technical College held its spring job fair on March 29, with record attendance from area employers interested in hiring Ranken’s highly-skilled technical students. More than 125 local and national companies attended the event, including A.G. Edwards, Anheuser-Busch, Build-a-Bear Inc., Haas Automation, Inc. and NASCAR Speedpark.

All of Ranken’s students are encouraged to attend the event, and are assisted by the Ranken Career Services office in preparing resumes to showcase their skills.

“The attendance at this job fair reinforces what we already know – that companies are hiring skilled technicians,” said Ranken president Ben Ernst. “We’ve got one of the best job-placement rates in the area, with 98 percent of our students working in jobs in their chosen fields within six months of graduation. These employers come back to Ranken time and time again because they know that we educate highly-skilled technicians, who are ready to go to work as soon as they graduate.”

Ernst attributes this success to Ranken’s educational formula, in which students are trained in technical skills, general education and work ethic. Students must adhere to stringent dress codes while at the college, and attendance policies are strict.

“Our students are treated as working professionals from the moment they enter one of our programs.” Ernst said. “When they graduate they’ve got the equivalent of two years experience in professional behavior, dress and attitude.”
