The Independent Schools Association of St. Louis (ISSL) is hosting a hiring fair on Saturday, February 23, from 9 a.m. to noon at the Harris Stowe State University’s Emerson Performance Center. Representatives from twenty-two local independent schools will be present to meet candidates and share a bit about their schools and programs.
Teachers of color are needed in independent schools because our environment must become representative of the society in which we live. We want to produce well-rounded children who can compete in the global economy and this can only be done when we offer a diverse curricula and community.
Teachers at independent schools say that they treasure the anonymity and responsibility that is unique to their school setting. They know that their efforts make a difference in the lives of their children and they enjoy making a difference in their schools, too. Independent schools are all unique; each defines educational progress in a slightly different way. Some independent schools are very structured and some are quite casual, some are experiential and some are prescribed, but teachers’ voices are heard in all independent schools.
Teacher candidates can pre-register at the ISSL website (www.independentschools.org/hiringfair), but drop-in candidates are welcome too.
All candidates should bring several copies of their resume as well as other information that will help present their talents and skills. There will be areas set aside for candidates to formally interview with schools that have job openings in candidates’ area of interest and expertise.

Coro seeks nominations
The Coro Leadership Center-St. Louis is now accepting nominations from the community in three categories to recognize leaders in the St. Louis region.
The categories are:
* Region As One – This award is presented to an individual who has demonstrated exemplary and innovative leadership in the area of regional collaboration and in directing initiatives that help lower the natural barriers in our diverse community.
* Community Leadership – This award is presented to an individual who has demonstrated committed and innovative leadership in helping the less fortunate.
* Emerging Leader – This award is presented to an individual between the ages of 25 and 40 who has made significant contributions toward strengthening the St. Louis region and whose leadership is characterized by his or her vitality and entrepreneurial spirit.
The individuals selected will be recognized at Coro’s 20th annual Leadership Awards Celebration this spring.
