The University of Missouri–St. Louis has been recognized for outstanding communication and alumni programming by a regional organization.
The Council for Advancement and Support of Education, District 6 announced Jan. 11 that the university had won nine awards from the group’s annual Institutional Awards Program. UMSL’s offices of Creative and Media Services took home eight awards, and the ninth went to the Office of Alumni Relations and Annual Giving.
All three offices are part of the Division of University Advancement, which is led by Martin Leifeld, vice chancellor for advancement.
The nine awards are:

* Gold, Excellence in Graphic Design: Special Publications – Invitations, announcements, maps and other similar projects, Joan Barnidge

* Gold, Excellence in Multimedia: Video, Ryan Heinz and Linda Tracy

* Bronze, Excellence in Alumni Programming: Homecoming-Reunions-Parent Programming, Office of Alumni Relations and Annual Giving

* Bronze, Excellence in Writing: Press Release, Kylie Shafferkoetter.
CASE is a professional organization for university advancement professionals. Its members work in alumni relations, communications, fundraising and marketing. CASE, District 6 represents advancement professionals from member institutions in Colorado, Iowa, Kansas, Missouri, Nebraska, North Dakota, South Dakota and Wyoming.
Public relations student conference
Maryville University will host a Pro-Am Day for the St. Louis Chapter of the Public Relations Student Society of America (PRSSA) on Friday, Feb. 19. The daylong event will bring students from St. Louis and surrounding areas together for career development seminars.
Gary McCormick, will serve as the keynote luncheon speaker. McCormick is CEO and director of partnership development for HGTV and Scripps Networks, and chair of the national PRSA.
Sessions include:
• What is Your Curb Appeal? – Tips on creating a positive and professional image
• Diary of the Young Professionals Panel – Young professionals in the field of public relations share their experiences
• Resume Workshop – Industry professionals will review and provide tips on improving resumes to compete in the current job market
• Dream Jobs – Roundtable discussion with professionals in various industry segments
Reservations are required and limited to the first 90 student registrants. The cost for PRSSA members is $42 and $50 for non-members. PRSA St. Louis members are invited to attend the luncheon; registration is required. PRSA members may make lunch reservations through PRSA St. Louis.
