New AARP contests encourages seniors to envision a new career
By American staff
The paradigm of retirement is ever changing, with the looming uncertainty with regards to federally funded retirement and social security programs. Perhaps with these ideas in mind the AARP has chosen to inspire the older crowd into entertaining the notion of a new career by way of a clever promotion.
Through its My Dream Job Contest, AARP is offering the older workforce an opportunity to win big prizes by asking them to think big with regards to opportunities and objectives to give their careers a second wind.
Prizes include a consultation package of the winners’ choice to either retool for their dream job or start their own business from Retirementjobs.com, a new laptop, a $500 American Express gift card and travel and accommodations for two for the 2008 AARP Life@50 National Event & Expo.
AARP is looking for six contestants from six categories:
The Career Changer – Someone who wants to take their talent and experience through a different door.
The New Worker – For the career mother (or father) looking for an opportunity to enter the workforce now that the children are all grown up.
The Entrepreneur – People interested in being their own boss and releasing their entrepreneurial spirit.
The Downsized – Those who have lost their job but not their way.
The Flexibility Seeker – For people whose personal responsibilities and interests make flexible work options an appealing alternative to the traditional 9-to5, 40-hour-work week schedule.
The Retired and Restless – Anyone growing bored with retired life and seeking a creative outlet to pad their retirement savings.
Applicants are asked to share their dream job vision by December 1, 2007 in order to qualify for a chance at a new beginning.
In addition to the prizes, selected winners will be asked to share their story with AARP The Magazine, chronicle their experiences and progress with other 50-plus job seekers on the AARP website and participate in the AARP My Dream Job Winners’ Circle Panel at the 2008 AARP Life@50 National Event and Expo.
