The Lutheran High School Association, which has two high schools, Lutheran High School North and Lutheran High School South, received a grant from the Lutheran Foundation of St. Louis of nearly $400,000 for the purpose of assisting in instituting a “one to one” technology initiative beginning in the 2012-13 school year.

Each student at both Lutheran North and Lutheran South will be provided with a new iPad (released in March 2012) for use in school and at home. A “one-to-one” learning environment offers all students and teachers continuous access to an array of software, electronic documents, presentations, Internet and digital learning resources.

Putting students into this type of learning environment can increase student engagement, improve classroom culture, and make it easier to provide for the different needs of each student. Students will also have increased use of technology for writing, analysis and research, which will result in student-centered and collaborative classrooms.

“Students of this generation learn and engage in education differently than students of the past,” said Tim Hipenbecker, president, Lutheran High School Association.

“Students today are literally immersed in the digital world. Therefore, it is important to engage them in this manner. They communicate, collaborate and create things digitally every day. Higher levels of achievement and engagement will result from effective integration of technology. As we meaningfully educate our students to prepare them to be successful Christian leaders and citizens of tomorrow, then technology must become one of their primary tools in the learning process.”
