The Missouri Chapter of the Sierra Club endorsed Megan Ellyia Green for re-election as alderwoman in Ward 15 of St. Louis. She was first elected to this seat in 2014 and is finishing her first term as Alderwoman.
“Alderwoman Green has been a champion of protecting our city’s clean water and clean air, as well as for voting rights and access to reproductive healthcare,” said local Sierra Club Political Chair Ross Hunt. “Voters in St. Louis city support environmental protection. That is one of the things that make our community a special part of our city. Ms. Green shares our values.”
On the March 7 ballot, Green faces Jennifer Florida, who held the seat before Mayor Francis G. Slay appointed Florida as recorder of deeds – a position Florida subsequently lost in an election to Sharon Carpenter, whom she had replaced after Carpenter resigned after violating the state’s nepotism law.
“Children in the City of St. Louis face epidemic levels of asthma. We need an alderwoman who is a leader, and who is not afraid to stand up to the polluters,” said Sierra Club Missouri Chapter Director John Hickey. “Alderwoman Green knows that air pollution is causing epidemic levels of childhood asthma – so she is voting for clean air.”
Hickey said that the Sierra Club will do “all we can to ensure that Megan Green is re-elected.” He said club volunteers will contact voters about the critical public health and clean energy issues that are at stake in this election.
“We look forward to a victory party for the environment on election night,” Hickey said.
The Democratic Primary is Tuesday, March 7, when polls are open from 6 a.m. until 7 p.m. Absentee voting is underway.
