2010 presented one of the most interesting and eclectic combinations of textures, colors, prints and cuts for fashion to hit the runway in years. From structured and sleek to bold and fuzzy, the style opportunities seem endless – and offer little margin for boredom.
Fur nation – furs have never been more prominent on runways – from outrageous coats to fur vests; from fur trim jackets to fur accented handbags and accessories. Faux or real, fur will be the hottest trend this fall. Vests, shawls, boots, purses, and coats are among the top must-haves.
Animal instinct – Designers are once again wild about animal prints. Whether it’s a coat, a leopard print skirt, shoe or a well placed accessory, animal prints manage to be both a trend and a classic.
Salute to soldier style – Military chic continues its reign as the trend marches into fall with everything from infantry-inspired jackets, vests and coats to cargo pants and lace-up boots – all made to look ladylike.
Layers, leggings and cardigans…oh my – Leggings and cardigans can be worn in a casual manner for a day of shopping and hanging out with friends or put together in a more sophisticated manner for work or a night on the town. It all depends on the particular pieces being worn and how they are layered together.
Cape it – Cropped or long, a host of cape and poncho styles walked the runways this season. Equal parts chic and cozy, they are the perfect answer for what to wear until it’s time for warm winter coats.
Less is more – Clean lines, sleek silhouettes, a lack of embellishment… these are the hallmarks of this season’s minimalism trend.
Camel chic – Every season, there’s a new neutral to incorporate into your wardrobe and this season’s hue is unquestionably camel. Whether it’s the ultra-hot camel coat, a well-placed accessory, or a sweater to pair with black, brown and denim, it’s a classic color worth owning. Add high notes of imperial purples, royal blues, shades of green, sunny golds or deep corals.
Feather time – They were hot in the spring/summer, and feather will still be hot in the fall. Wear them on a purse, headband, or necklace. They’re also being added to necklines and belts for the perfect extra oomph to compliment this year’s recurring theme of simple seams and sleekness.
Ruffle rage – Ruffles on shirts, dresses and even denim and leather jackets have become one of the fashion frenzies. One ruffled piece incorporated into outfits will create an entirely new ensemble and a fashion forward position.
Jewel tones – Saturated hues like ruby, sapphire and emerald add richness to this fall’s looks. They can be mixed together or paired with neutrals such as black, gray and camel.
