The Pageant will get all jazzed up on Wednesday June 8 when Herbie Hancock and his Headhunters `05 take stage. The band, which includes bassist Marcus Miller, guitarists John Mayer and Lionel Loueke, trumpeter Roy Hargrove, drummer Terri Lyne Carrington, and percussionist Munyungo Jackson, is on the road for four gigs this summer.
Hancock, who is said to be one of the best jazz pianists to date, has explored and mastered several types of music, from jazz, funk, and even pop. Throughout Hancock’s musical career, he has collaborated with music legends ranging from Miles Davis to Stevie Wonder. Hancock also worked with Phil Woods, Donald Byrd and Oliver Nelson, and recorded the debut album, Takin’ Off, which included the hit track “Watermelon Man.” Hancock was recently awarded the 2004 National Endowment of the Arts Award.
