On Sunday, the Kirkwood Historical Society Black History Committee will present A Celebration of Excellence: African-American History of Kirkwood. The schedule of activities includes an Author Roundtable featuring some of St. Louis’ most influential African-American authors. Eddy L. Harris is the author of four books and serves as Writer in Residence at Washington University. His work has been hailed by many, including USA Today and the Los Angeles Reader. Mississippi Solo was selected by Missouri Librarians for ReadMOre 2004. Alvin Reid, who serves as city editor for the American and co-wrote Whitey’s Boys, an inside look at the group of atheletes who won the World Series for St. Louis in 1982. Other noted authors scheduled to appear include Mildred Johnson, Patricia and Frederick McKissack and Keith Rawlings.
