Harris-Stowe State University, home of the Don and Heide Wolff Jazz Institute, will host a benefit concert of jazz greats at 7 p.m. Saturday, August 29 in the Dr. Henry Givens Jr. Administration Building’s Main Auditorium.
Don Wolff will serve as the emcee for the show, titled “A Night of Jazz Greats: Statesmen of Jazz Featuring Clark Terry.”
The concert will feature the sounds of St. Louis’ very own Clark Terry, trumpeter and flugelhornist; jazz tenor saxophonist and record producer Houston Person; trombonist Wycliffe Gordon; trumpeter Randy Sandke; drummer and vibraphone player Chuck Redd; bassist Nicki Parrott; pianist Rossano Sportiello; drummer Eddie Locke; bassist Jim Widner and songstress Denise Thimes.
This outstanding lineup has never before been seen together, and Harris-Stowe is proud to have such a diverse group of jazz legends perform on its campus.
The Wolff Jazz Institute on Harris-Stowe’s campus is comprised of a portion of Don Wolff’s multi-million dollar jazz collection of records and CDs, as well as other memorabilia.
Wolff, a former member of the University’s Board of Regents, is a well-known jazz enthusiast and host of “I Love Jazz,” which is featured on HEC-TV, Live365.com and Classic 99 KFUO FM.
Tickets can be purchased through Metrotix. Prices are as follows: first three rows, which includes admission to the reception to meet the stars, $50; main floor seats, $30; balcony seats, $20 and students pay $10 with a valid student ID.
