One dance icon will celebrate another at this year’s 5th Annual Katherine Dunham Legacy Gala.
Actor, dancer, award-winning choreographer, singer, producer, and judge panelist on television show So You Think You Can Dance, Debbie Allen will help honor Dunham’s contributions and continued legacy with her participation in this year’s gala.
Allen is best known for her role as dance teacher Lydia Douglas in the long-running television series “Fame,” but tomorrow she will pay tribute to an artist who paved the way for her path – and so many others – in the field of dance.
She will host alongside Ron Himes, founder and producing director of The St. Louis Black Repertory Company. The Gala is an elegant awards dinner and fundraiser set to honor those who live and contribute to the legacy of Katherine Dunham.
In addition to Debbie Allen, the Gala will also feature Lula Washington, Founder of Lula Washington Dance Theatre, Joan Myers Brown, founder of Philadanco Dance Company, and will honor the recent unveiling of the Katherine Dunham US Postage Stamp.
The 5th Annual Katherine Dunham Legacy Gala will be held tomorrow (6 p.m., August 4) at the Four Points by Sheraton, 319 Fountains Parkway, Fairview Heights, IL 62208. For tickets and/or additional information, Call (618) 618-407-0521
