Rap mogul Diddy and the Rev. Al Sharpton will speak at rapper Heavy D’s funeral in New York tomorrow and BET Networks is planning a tribute for the late rapper at Sunday’s Soul Train awards.
Diddy said in a statement to The Associated Press he’s “heartbroken” by the death of his “dear friend.”
A private funeral for Heavy D will be held Friday at Grace Baptist Church in Mount Vernon, just north of New York City. The rapper died at a Los Angeles hospital last week after collapsing outside his home.
BET announced Monday the Soul Train Music Awards in Atlanta will pay tribute to Heavy D, with Curtis Blow, Naughty by Nature, Big Daddy Kane, Doug E. Fresh, DJ Eddie F, Whodini and Daddy-O of Stetsasonic participating.
