Tomorrow (Sept. 19), FunkJazz Kafe Founder and Creative Director Jason Orr will visit St. Louis to present “FunkJazz Kafé: Diary of a Decade.”

The documentary explores Atlanta’s FunkJazz Kafé Arts & Music Festival and features the likes of Dick Gregory, Dallas Austin, Erykah Badu, Roy Ayers, Jamie Foxx, Andre 3000, Jill Scott, and many others.

This unique cinematic experience tells the story of a cultural phenomenon known as FunkJazz Kafé, an unscripted arts and music festival that supported an often overlooked genre of soul

music spanning the late 1980s, 1990s, and early 2000s.

Highlighting artists such as Janelle Monáe, Roy Ayers, Omar, Jill Scott, Cee-Lo Green, Erykah Badu, and many others, this film goes deep into the fabric of soul music and includes commentary from prominent cultural critics like Dick Gregory, Cornel West, and Kevin Powell.

Q&A with director Jason Orr follows.

The information tables begin at 6 p.m. and the screening begins at 7 p.m. The question and answer session will begin immediately after the film.
