The brain injury suffered by comedian/actor Tracy Morgan this past June in an auto crash is so debilitating, that it’s unclear whether he’ll be able to resume his career, his lawyer revealed to The New York Post.
Attorney Benedict Morelli said his 45-year-old client is still undergoing rigorous rehab including daily speech, cognitive, vocational and physical therapies.
When asked if the actor and comedian will ever perform again, Morelli said, “The jury’s still out.”
“The doctors don’t know the answer. I don’t know the answer,” he added.
Morgan was returning from a performance in Delaware in June when a Walmart truck slammed into the back of a limo van he and others were riding in. Comedian James McNair was killed and several others were injured.
The former “30 Rock” and “Saturday Night Live” cast member sued over the crash, and Walmart said in a court filing Monday that Morgan and his traveling companions caused their injuries “in whole or in part” because they weren’t wearing seatbelts.
Morgan responded Tuesday in a statement released by his publicist: “After I heard what Walmart said in court I felt I had to speak out,” he said. “I can’t believe Walmart is blaming me for an accident that they caused. My friends and I were doing nothing wrong. I want to thank my fans for sticking with me during this difficult time. I love you all. I’m fighting hard every day to get back.”
“These people are despicable,” said Morelli, who representing Morgan and fellow passengers Jeffrey Millea and Ardie Fuqua in the lawsuit. “They knew that they changed these people’s lives forever and killed somebody.”
