In an interview with The Daily Mail, Lamar Sally says Sherri Shepherd begged him for a baby so she wouldn’t be an old mom and paid $30,000 to the surrogate.
He claims that now Shepherd won’t sign the birth certificate and is refusing to see the baby and he has been forced to go on welfare to care for the child.
Shepherd offered Sally a one-time payment of $100k and $3k a month in child support, but he refused.
The bitter battle over the child, who was conceived with Lamar’s sperm and a donor egg, is ongoing and Sally implies that her “forgetting” to sign papers may have been strategic.
“Sherri signed all of the papers leading up the surrogacy except the pre-birth order, the order that would allow her name be put on the birth certificate once the surrogate had the baby,” Sally told the Daily Mail. “Sherri kept forgetting to sign it or she lost it a couple of times. At the time I didn’t think anything about it because she was always so forgetful or losing things but now looking back it seems suspicious.”
Shepherd used social media to fire back.
“Remember, there are always more sides to a story than the ‘exclusive’ stories one person is selling for money to the tabloids,” Shepherd said. “So before you arbitrarily assign “bad character” and “poor judgment” to one person, why don’t you wait for the truth to come out?”
