On Sunday St. Louis’ own super promoter LooseCannon S.L.I.M. held his 4th Annual Celebrity Basketball Game at Chaifetz Arena. The game’s mission is to have fun and promote peace in the community – with a portion of the proceeds from the game benefitting Better Family Life’s Put Down the Pistol peace initiative. Apparently celebrity coach Lil Wayne didn’t get the memo.
Though unassuming and laidback when the game began, the rap star became increasingly irritated as he watched the referee’s calls as his Young Money squad play against team LooseCannon on the court.
According S.L.I.M., the initial banter between Wayne and the ref were premeditated to bring action and suspense to the game – much like a WWE match. The exchange was supposed to culminate with Lil Wayne suiting up and playing for team Young Money.
Instead, Wayne chased the ref down the court in a threatening manner and reportedly spat at him.
“Things got out of hand,” S.L.I.M. said.
Police were called, but no arrests were made and the rest of the game took place without incident – as did an after party where Lil Wayne performed later that night at Harry’s.
“It’s a shame that we had such a positive event and people chose to focus on the few seconds of negativity,” S.L.I.M. said. “We promoted peace all weekend. We gave away tickets to children, Wayne posed with fans and we had a good game and he and five other rappers ripped the stage at the after party. But that one little incident is all people want to talk about.”
Other celebrity participants of the game and after party included Kirko Bangz, Mack Maine, Yo Gotti, Stevie J and Michael Vick.
