The singing Levert family of Cleveland has lost another son and brother. Sean Levert has died.
Levert, 39, the son of R&B legend Eddie Levert and brother of Gerald Levert, who passed away in 2006, collapsed at the Cuyahoga County Jail late last night and was immediately rushed to the hospital.
A nursing supervisor at Lutheran Hospital confirmed to Cleveland’s Fox 8 News that Levert, a Cleveland native, died at the hospital of natural causes just before midnight on Sunday.
Levert had reportedly been in the Cuyahoga County Jail serving time after he pleaded guilty last week to failing to pay $89,025 in child support for his children ages 11, 15 and 17. He was sentenced to one year and 10 months in jail.
An autopsy was conducted on Monday, but was found inconclusive. The authorities do say that foul play was ruled out.
The Cuyahoga County Coroner says Levert’s body showed no signs of physical trauma. They are currently awaiting toxicology results, which won’t be available for another four to six weeks.
TMZ.com reported Tuesday that Levert had to be physically restrained by guards at the Cuyahoga County Jail preceding his collapse. The site said that Levert was “out of control” and “hallucinating” before being placed in a restraining chair because he was a danger to himself.
Sean, along with Gerald and Marc Gordon was a member of the 80s group Levert. They hit it big with “Casanova.”
