Jennifer Hudson gave an emotional rendition of the national anthem to kick-off last night’s Super Bowl game where the Pittsburgh Steelers would rally to beat the Arizona Cardinals.
It was Hudson’s first public appearance since the October slayings in Chicago of her mother, brother and 7-year-old nephew, singer/actress Jennifer Hudson “sang” the national anthem before a massive worldwide television audience Sunday night.
“I told her ‘Touchdown!'” pre-game show producer Rickey Minor The Associated Press after the performance.
Minor said Hudson’s two cell phones lit up “like slot machines” following her performance, and she received a moving text message from Jamie Foxx, her co-star in “Dreamgirls.”
“His text said ‘Amazing. It brought tears to my eyes,'” Minor said. “She’s just getting so much love.”
Hudson will also perform next week Grammy Awards.
