A few months back, Keite Young blessed the mic at Suite Soul Spot, the monthly soul session featuring local and national artists on the soul/hip hop scene. And for the May edition tomorrow night at the Old Rock House, Vanita Applebum Entertainment will bring Young and his down home Texas soul back to St. Louis for the many music lovers in need of an encore.
Young’s debut album “The Rise and Fall of Keite Young” was released last August with Hidden Beach Records received critical acclaim. Even prior to the album hit shelves Young was pegged as one to watch in the R&B/Soul music genre.
In addition to Young’s unique brand of spirit laced soul music, Yazarah a.k.a. Purple St. James will be making her way to the Suite Soul Spot for the first time. Yazarah’s distinct soprano voice was first heard backing up Erykah Badu. She made a decision to pursue a musical career from centerstage and has gone on to release two CD’s entitled “Hear Me” and “Black Star”. Yazarah has shared the stage with Floetry, Musiq Soul Child, Kem, Donnie, Amel Larrieux, Goapele, Talib Kweli, Rahsaan Paterson, Raheem DaVaughn, Chaka Kahn, Bilal, The Roots to name a few.
The Suite Soul Spot presented by Vanita Applebum Entertainment kicks off at 9 p.m. tomorrow night (Tuesday, May 6th) at 9 p.m. with 7 p.m. doors at the Old Rock House (1200 S. 7th St.). Tickets are $10. For more information visit www.myspace.com/vanitaapplebum.
