Kennedy Holmes

Kennedy Holmes, a 13-year-old 8th grader at John Burroughs School who resides in Florissant, captured the hearts of all four celebrity coaches during the season 15 premiere NBC’s hit vocal talent competition “The Voice.” Holmes is now headed to the live rounds after wowing coach Jennifer Hudson with her performance of P!nk’s “What About Us” during Monday night’s episode.

“I definitely see myself in Kennedy,” Hudson said as Kennedy rehearsed her performance. Watching her takes me back down memory lane in a way,”

Pop star Mariah Carey, who served as Holmes’ mentor for the knockout rounds

“I love the quality of your voice,” Carey told Kennedy.

Carey seemed thoroughly and genuinely impressed with Holmes.

“I remember when I was 13, I was very vulnerable,” Carey said. “Kennedy has so much confidence and stage presence, but this is her one chance to be 13. If she can enjoy this time, I think that’s going to carry her through.”

For the performance, Holmes was true to form in giving a stunningly beautiful performance.

“Kennedy, I bet P!nk is gonna be so proud,” said celebrity coach Kelly Clarkson. “You did such a beautiful job.”

Fellow celebrity coach Blake Shelton told Hudson that Holmes should be her pick.

“I loved the vulnerability that you showed in your voice and you were in the moment,” Hudson said before she declared that Holmes was the winner.

“I’m feeling extremely happy that Jennifer still believes in me,” Holmes said after Hudson selected her as the champion of the knockout round. “That makes me very happy and I’m very blessed.”
