According to Allhiphop.com, Lil Wayne may end up in front of a judge again, but this time to defend himself against a copyright infringement lawsuit.
The Royalty Network filed a $2.5 million dollar lawsuit against Lil Wayne and Cash Money Records in Manhattan Federal Court yesterday (February 17).
According to the lawsuit, “Mrs. Officer” was produced by Darius “Deezle” Harrison, who claimed he owns the rights the song.
Harrison seeks all profits that have been derived from “Mrs. Officer”, which also featured R&B crooner Bobby Valentino and rapper Kidd Kidd.
“Mrs. Officer” peaked at #2 on Billboard’s Hot Rap Tracks chart was one of the popular singles off of Tha Carter III, which sold over a million copies the first week it was in stores.
Harrison, who also hails from New Orleans, also helped produce six other songs on Tha Carter III and has worked with artists like Kanye West, Yung Joc, Birdman, Teena Marie and others.
In other Lil’ Wayne news, TMZ.com is reporting that the 27-year-old rapper had eight root canals on Tuesday – which was the reason for his delayed prison sentencing.
During the eight-hour procedure, Lil Wayne – who has said his jewel-encrusted teeth cost about $150,000 –
underwent several tooth implants and “had the few real teeth he had left repaired,” the site reports.
Last week, the rapper’s sentencing in a weapons case (Last year, he admitted he illegally had a loaded .40-caliber semiautomatic gun on his tour bus in July 2007.) was postponed so he could have the dental surgery.
