Dear Gwendolyn:
I did not enjoy the holidays because my job is doing me wrong. This is the problem: All employees received a bonus except me. I have worked so hard for the company. My wife used to tell me that they were not going to appreciate my efforts. It has turned out to be true.
I am past retirement age. In fact I am 72-years-old. If I retire, I don’t know how I will be able to survive. My wife is a shopaholic and has been one for years. I fear if I lose my job, I lose my wife.
Tell me what to do. Please.
Robert
Dear Robert:
Go home. Let me tell you this: There is a time to work and a time to retire. Jobs do forget their good workers…you know…the ones who made the company grow. You could file a lawsuit, but that could take years – and I don’t advise it. Use your senior years doing great things and things you always wanted to do, but didn’t.
As to finance in retirement, you may have to downsize. List your house on the selling market and move into a senior retirement apartment. Think about it. They usually do not require payment for monthly utilities (electric/gas, water, no grass to cut).
However, there is another option: You and your wife could start a home business. That would allow you to increase your income and keep your house. You could also check into the program called “Reverse Mortgage.”
But, as to the job — Go home Robert. The job doesn’t want you there. Don’t think about the hard work you did. Guess what? The company will discover a lot of today’s workers are — lazy, pretend to be crazy, and they lack knowledge and experience. Go home my friend. – Go home. (copyright © 2010 by Gwendolyn L. Baines)
