Aminah Williams, owner of Aminah’s Treats & More, has launched “Cupcakes for a Cause” to raise funds for an upcoming missionary trip to Southeast Africa, and she needs roughly $2,000 more within the next two weeks.

She always knew that she was supposed to be in Africa, Williams said. She has even had dreams about it.

She shared her “dream” with Pastor Raymond Washington of Calvary Church in St. Charles, Mo. Pastor Washington, Williams will travel with a group on July 1 to Lilongwe, Malawi.

They will spend about two weeks in a remote village where there is no electricity and villagers walk five miles to the nearest source of water, Williams said. Clean water is scarce and there’s a high epidemic of malaria, she added.

The group will work in partnership with Vision Trust, a nonprofit organization that provides things like food, medical care, and schooling for people in need around the globe. Although this is Williams’ first time doing missionary work, the group she is traveling with has been to Malawi before. Their plans are to finish construction on a school they began during an earlier visit, run health clinics, and build a well.

She came up with numerous reasons why she thought she could not follow through with her mission—to bring happiness to women and orphaned children in Africa. She started keeping a vision board to help bring her dreams into fruition. She found a picture of an African girl that “spoke to me,” Williams said.

“God was like, ‘I want you to go spread the Gospel and do my work. I’m going to give you the power to do it,’” Williams said.

People have told Williams that she will use her gifts and talents all over the world. She hopes that her visit demonstrate to the children that there are people around the world that care. She is happiest when she is helping people in need, and she is always “pounding the pavement” for a cause she believes in, Williams said. She even donated a kidney to her father.

“I realized how precious life was and the ability to help save someone was the greatest gift I could give,” she said. “I can’t give away any other organs, but I can use my gifts, my story, my testimony to help all those that god places in my path.”
