Chingy is mourning the loss of his mother Vernita Crawford. Known to many as Jean, Crawford passed away on Friday (Apr. 7). She was 59.
Chingy issued the following statement on behalf of his family:
“My family and I would like to thank everyone for all of the condolences, phone calls and kind words. The loss of our mother was unforeseen and heartbreaking. She was the foundation to who my siblings and I are and she is loved by many. We’re asking for privacy in this time of bereavement and hope you continue to keep us in your thoughts and prayers as we learn to cope with this devastating absence from our family structure. Thank you again for your love and support.”
Always gracious and approachable, Crawford was often on hand playing a supportive role for concerts, shows and special events that featured her famous son Howard “Chingy” Bailey. He gained national acclaim on the hip-hop scene nearly 15 years ago when his debut single “Right Thurr” blazed the charts and added to the international buzz being created by the St. Louis rap scene.
Final services for Ms. Crawford are private.
