Larry Hill named his gospel label Tragan Records after his two daughters, Trava and Logan. Tragically, Trava died two years ago at age 11 after drowning.
“The best way to continue her legacy and do what God called me to do was to start this label,” Hill said.
“Start it in a place of integrity, for people whose hearts are truly towards God.”
Hill currently is working with one artist who is signed with the label, Kenny Jackson. Jackson will record his debut album, Songs of Deliverance, live December 11 at the Metro Christian Worship Center.
“Right now we are a small label and want to make sure we put out quality music,” Hill said.
“Create a sound, create a level of excellence in music that’ll dissolve outside of the walls of the St. Louis area and touch people. And their lives will be changed and know that God is really someone they can trust.”
Jackson currently has a single, “El Shaddai,” on I-tunes and satellite radio.
“The goal is to create a sound, start with integrity, and I’m just a tool,” Hill said.
Hill grew up in Cahokia, Illinois and graduated from Southern Illinois University at Carbondale with a degree in business administration. While growing up Hill was active at his church, Metro Christian Worship Center. Hill also acquired musical skills playing the drums during church services growing up.
“I feel like God called me out to do it,” Hill said. “My experience in life has prepared me for this, in my heart, towards worship, God and people.”
His ultimate goal is to save lives of those who are in disbelief of God.
“Our goals are quite different than to make a lot of money. We’d rather influence someone to make a better decision in their life and choices regarding their life,” Hill said.
“This business forces you to do two things – chase money or believe what God has planned for you. We’ve done nothing but obey God.”
