Darille Coleman of the Jackie Joyner-Kersee Center wins photography contest

Darille Coleman, a member of the Jackie Joyner-Kersee Center Boys and Girls Club, is a regional winner of the ImageMakers National Photography Contest.

Sponsored by the Circuit City Foundation, the contest is part of a comprehensive initiative encouraging artistic skills, cultural enrichment and creativity.

“I am really excited to be a winner,” said Coleman. “And I am truly grateful for a place like the Jackie Joyner-Kersee Center that allows me to explore different things such as photography.”

Twenty-six entries by 10 participants were submitted in the contest by the Jackie Joyner-Kersee Center Boys and Girls Club.

Coleman’s photo won for alternative process and will go on to be judged nationally. Forty-four national winners will be named and their photography displayed in the ImageMakers National Photography Contest traveling exhibition and at special BGCA events throughout the year.

“By introducing members to photography, we are giving them the priceless opportunity to express themselves in creative and usual ways,” said Jackie Joyner-Kersee, president/CEO Jackie Joyner-Kersee Foundation. “Circuit City Foundation’s support will enable members to maximize their artistic talents and develop creative thinking to last a lifetime.”

Located at 101 Jackie Joyner-Kersee Circle, the Jackie Joyner-Kersee Center Boys & Girls Club has served the youth of the Metro East for five years. The club provides programs for more than 9,000 boys and girls in the areas of character and leadership development, educational enhancement, career preparation, health and life skills, the arts and sports, fitness and recreation.
