A hospital report says doctors analyzed samples from Gandolfini’s body Friday in Rome.
By law, medical examiners in Italy are required to conduct a postmortem 24 hours after the body’s arrival in the morgue, a hospital spokesman said.
Although Gandolfini was said to have had “serious issues” with drugs and alcohol, according to 2002 divorce papers, doctors had not noted any suspicious factors on his medical report, Claudio Modini, who heads the emergency department where Gandolfini was taken in Rome, told CNN.
According to Good Morning America U.S. Embassy has to issue a death certificate before the body can be released to family.
