Civil rights icon’s life story on Lifetime Television

In remembrance of the spirit and legacy of civil rights activist and icon Rosa Parks, Lifetime Television and sister network, Lifetime Real Women, pay their respects with a special night of programming Tuesday, November 1st.

Lifetime Real Women will air Intimate Portrait: Rosa Parks shows how Rosa Parks changed the world when she uttered that historic “no” by refusing to sit in the back of a Montgomery, Alabama bus. Her act brought the civil rights movement to the forefront of the American consciousness and made her a hero. It was an unlikely role for a modest seamstress, but, as the program reveals, Rosa paid a heavy price for her fame. Guest interviews include Gloria Steinem, the late Ossie Davis and his wife, Ruby Dee, and Elaine Steele, Parks’ longtime friend and co-founder of The Rosa and Raymond Parks Institute of Self-Development. Air time 7 p.m.

Lifetime TV will also air “The Rosa Parks Story,” critically acclaimed actress Angela Bassett stars in the title role. Her defiance of a white bus driver who demanded she give up her seat for a white passenger resulted in the most effective nonviolent protest in American history. But these events were among many racial injustices that Rosa and her husband, Raymond, faced throughout their lives. The Rosa Parks Story also stars Emmy® Award-winning actress, Cicely Tyson and airs at 9PM.
