Urban League raises bucks for scholars at Ebony Fashion Fair
The world’s largest traveling fashion show, the 49th Annual Ebony Fashion Fair, graced the stage of the Blanche Touhill Performing Arts Center on a very cold Saturday night.
Known for its glamour and strut-your-stuff style, the Ebony Fashion Fair showcased the flare of the world’s most creative clothing designs from world-famous designers like Vivienne Westwood, Caroline Herrera and Oscar de la Renta.
Established by the Federation of Block Units in 1964, the Beatrice T. Hurt Scholarship Fund provides assistance to students who might not otherwise be able to attend post-secondary institutions. Over $500,000 in scholarships have been awarded to nearly 600 students in the St. Louis area through the annual gala.
“We look forward to the Ebony Fashion Fair Show every year, because it’s exciting and entertaining,” said James H. Buford, president and CEO of the Urban League of Metropolitan St. Louis.
“But, more importantly, it allows us to raise funds for college scholarships.”
