The Eye Candy Models represent some of the most beautiful women in St. Louis, but only one will rep last year’s 12 monthly winners as the ’08 Eye Candy Spokes-model.

The competition gets strutting at 10 p.m. Thursday, January 31 at The Loft. Miss January ’08 Eye Candy Model will be selected following the Grand Finale.

So far Ms. December (Ashlai) is winning the spokes-model popular vote on stleyecandy.com. She’s followed closely by Ms. March (Shanell) with Miss May (Haley) and Miss April in third and fourth respectively.

Miss December who has lived in St. Louis less than five months said it feels but good to be in the lead, but it doesn’t make her feel that she’s really in the lead.

“It would make anyone feel good,” she said. “It just means you have a lot of people supporting you.”

Miss December leaned on family and friends in Boston and Richmond, the places she spent most of her life.

Internet voters can vote until 5 p.m. Thursday, January 31. The popular vote tally will count as one judge’s nod.

The actual competition is no catwalk in the park.

It will be determined by judges, who will be on the lookout for more than just skin-deep beauty in photographs, persuasive bios and self-promotions.

Models will be judged on their outfits and style, catwalk strut, presence and perhaps most important – their answer to why they should be chosen ’08 spokes-model.

“Everything counts and the winner has to really step up and stand out,” said Mo Spoon, CEO of MPAC, which produces the Eye Candy Party, the most popular event of its kind in St. Louis.

Unlike the monthly event’s slogan, “it’s a party not a pageant.” The grand finale “will be a pageant,” Mo Spoon said.

“This person will be the face of the Eye Candy Models,” he added.

They have to bring it! says ’06 Eye Candy Spokesmodel B. Skye (Miss May ’06).

“You only get one chance to give your best shot, so you need to come with you’re ‘A’-game,” B-Skye said noting that losing shouldn’t cause any of the Eye Candy Models to give up.

“You never know when and where your blessings will come from,” said Skye, alluding to her becoming spokes-model after stipulations forced last year’s winner (Sheen J, Miss March) to step down.

“I didn’t win, but I was brought to the forefront,” B. Skye said.

As Eye Candy Spokes-Model, B. Skye has learned and inherited a lot.

“It taught me a lot about myself, how to be a better speaker and it got me more hosting jobs,” she said.

B.Skye also said the role is good for networking. She has met a lot of people and has some major opportunities (that she can’t mention) coming up.

But B. Skye warns that spokes-model duties are always attractive.

“It’s time-consuming, and if no one else shows up you have to, and never let them see you sweat. Because people are going to look at you and a lot of times people make you the fall guy,” she said.

Jimmell Meyers of Envy by Jimmell Myers, a fashion wardrobe and consultant and visual merchandiser, said a lot of the ’07 models have potential.

“There are more girls this year that really have the image, attitude and desire,” said Meyers, who is styling and consulting the ’08 Eye Candy Finale contestants.

Meyers said she looks for class, innocence and charisma.

“Sex sells, but you can be sexy with your clothes on,” said Meyers who has taken on that responsibility with the models.

Her company has been up and running since 1999. She worked with such artists as Nelly, St. Lunatics, Big Gipp, Toya and former St. Louis Rams player Az-Azir Akim.

She designed outfits for dancers on the Nellyville tour, has coordinated fashion shows and worked with modeling agencies.

“I’m there to make them look crisp and flawless and make sure the quality is there,” she said.

Mo Spoon said all of the models are winners and some of the most beautiful women in country.

“Each one of them beat out at least 20 other young ladies to win,” he said.

Along with the spokes-model crown, this year’s winner will receive a $2,000 cash prize, a vacation package from www.discountstartravel.com and a diamond jewelry prize, courtesy of Arian Jewelers, LLC.
