Congratulations to newlyweds St. Louisan Erika Whitehead and Phillip Huiswoud who were married at UMSL’s Provincial Chapel on September 2. The couple has relocated from Washington, D.C. St. Louis is now home. Beautiful picture, thanks for sharing Erika. Happy six month anniversary!

The YWCA Alberta E. Gantt 43rd Annual Valentine Fashion Show and Luncheon was a huge success. Event Chairwomen Denise Baldwin Casey (Scottrade), Stephanie White and Fashion Show Coordinator Mattie White were pleased with the overwhelming support for this fashionista event that benefits the YWCA’s Transitional Housing Program. The program assists homeless women in the St. Louis area.

The afternoon billed “Oohs and Aahs” showcased fashions by Marcel, Hats by Di-Anne, The Fur and Leather Centre, Stein Mart, David’s Bridal and Betty’s Tuxedo. St. Louis’ top models strolled through scenes including Business and Daytime, Energy, Nighttime, Evening Stars, Furs and Winter Wonders.  A few models on the runway included the scene stealing Miss Jessica Wilson, Jeanette Cofield, Austin Bell, Jerri Kincade, Christian Cofield, Raenice Hall and Danielle Smith Thurman. First class entertainment was provided by The Chad Evans Trio at the opening reception and Marla Hudson-Spriggs during lunch. Louise Holland (Elaine Steven Beauty College) was delightful as Mistress of Ceremonies and Kevin Smoot as Announcer. A great afternoon in the beautiful Renaissance Hotel Ballroom, time well spent for a great cause.

Delta Sigma Theta keeps St. Louisans social with event after event….especially in this their centennial year. Janet Bonner, Ida Goodwin Woolfolk and Shirley Brown (St. Louis Centennial and Torch DST Committee Chairs) planned the appropriately themed Gospel and Jazz Brunch to benefit the St. Louis Alumnae Delta Foundation. The lavish event was held at the St. Louis Airport Marriott last month.

Music and Delta VIP’s and Delta friendly VIP’s were there and enjoying musical selections featured in every corner of the room and hallways including; Anita Jackson with Tim Cunningham, Gregg Haynes and the Happy Guitar, Big George and The House Rockers, Karen Hylton, Knez Jakovac and Jon Ferber, the Bosman Twins and Charles “Chuck Creath” as Director/Arranger of all music. An old fashioned southern soul food brunch was served.

The lead event sponsors were David and Thelma Steward (World Wide Technology). Other major contributors included; Tom Voss and Brian Leonard (Ameren Missouri), Michael Neidorff (Centene Coporation), Shannon Bagley (Home State Health Plan), Elson Williams (Major Brands Liquor), Mike McMillan and George Robnett (The St. Louis Community Empowerment Foundation), Bernadette Officer (Officer Funeral Homes). This was a marvelous and sold out event.

Fundraising for the upcoming May 18th Cotillion to be sponsored by the St. Louis Housing Authority and Kingdom House has been successful. Committee members finished round three Saturday with a rousing turnout at the Curlee’s For the Girlie’s Spring Scholarship Bizarre at Kingdom House. The bizarre housed vendors who offered a variety of interesting items including natural hair care products Shauna Malone’s (Sunshine’s Natural and Loving It), Sherry Adams (Candy Dolls) and a variety of jewelry, accessory and clothing vendors.

Committee members are grateful for the community support beginning with their fun-filled Pancake Breakfast last month, Skate Party last week and bizarre this week. The group’s next fund-raising event will be held on April 27 at the Omega Center; A Jazz Brunch. Please contact any of the following committee members for information; Linda Townsend, Trish Lawal, Antwine Rook, Artie Hamilton, Mesha Brown, Chester Dean, Hope Sims and Kevin Robinson. (314) 421-0400 or (314) 241-8319. The young women who will be presented at the Cotillion are residents of St. Louis Housing Authority Communities and participants in Kingdom House programs. Kudos to committee members and supporters of this worthy cause!

Sheila Banks just returned from LA where close friend and former college roomie noted actress Alfrie Woodard and LA business woman Kimalica Guynes hosted a book signing in her honor. Bittersweet, Sheila’s novel based on a true story is selling like hotcakes in LA. They sold out of books and had to refer guests to Amazon.com.  I am so happy this delicious read is a continuing success.

Happy St. Patrick’s Day! Dana Grace.
