Dig it n our City Editor Alvin A. Reid had March 2, 2005 all to his own bad self, since that was officially declared Alvin A. Reid Day in his beloved Greater Kirkwood. His town’s Mayor Mike Swaboda honored Alvin and several other local authors with Kirkwood roots by giving them their very own days as part of the Kirkwood Historic Society’s Black History Month goings-on. The other scribes honored with a day in their names were Eddy Harris, Mildred Johnson, Pat and Frederick McKissack and Keith Rawlings. Alvin spent the better part of his day at work in another city n St. Louis n but the smart money says he was drinking on somebody else’s nickel in his native Kirkwood before the clock ticked to March 3.
