Now y’all know I gave him grief for that Nacho Libre poncho he was draped in for half of his show the last time he was here, but that doesn’t mean I’m not ABSOULUTELY thrilled he will be blessing the mic this time next week (as in Thursday) at the 2720 Cherokee. I’m still a bit bitter that Musiq Soulchild stuck him for his spot in the music game, but he’s still at it – and hopefully one of these days Mr. “Soul Sista” will get the recognition he deserves. Meanwhile, y’all still have a chance to be cutting-edge by getting up on him right now. And lucky for us, he’s bringing a few – okay more than a few – friends along to get his show started off right. The show will also feature sets from Tiffany Elle, Lamar Harris & Thelonius Kryptonite collaborating on the tables and mic; individual DJ sets from Nappy DJ Needles and 18andCounting; Black Spade on the mic; and finally a sound clash with Needles, Spade, and 18andCounting. Those of you who love real music will be kicking yourself if you miss this show. It all kicks off at 9 p.m.
