After running into him at the Eye Candy Party my boy Darius asked me to stop by his show at the Plaza on Saturday for the kick-off of Funny First and Second Saturdays. It was a nice crowd. He was his usual funny self and had special guests do their thing. Including Rodney (one joke) Whitfield. I know he’s old and he’s a legend, but so damn what. Him bein’ in the game since George Washington Carver was a baby is all the more reason why he should know better than to tell the same jokes for 20 years. But folks were still laughin’ like they had never heard the stuff before. So I guess he says if it ain’t broke…Nationally known T.K. Kirkland even made a sneak through in between sets at his Laughs on the Landing gig. Darius was talkin’ about the big things he had coming up, including special shows with acts like Sommore and a remake of the Flip Wilson show. So y’all need to stop through the Plaza on Saturday night (the show starts at 8 p.m., but don’t quote me) to see what he has cookin’ on the comedy tip. Speaking of comedy, Comedian Lil Roc moved his Monday comedy show to the New Hadley’s in U. City. It was off the chain. About eight comedians roasted St. Louis Slim real good, but he tore all of them up by the time it was all over.
