Seven was the place to be on Father’s Day last Sunday, especially if you’re into jazz or great traditional music in general. Just about all of the local, heavyweight vocalists and musicians were in the house for Songs For My Father’s Day, sponsored by Anheuser-Busch and the St. Louis American. The concert was a presentation by vocalist Ron Wilkinson, who turned the place out. He sat in on vocals with many of the other bands, including Curt Landis, Willie Akins’ Quartet, Trio Tres Bien with Gene Lynn, and the Bosman Twins. They fired the place up. And this wasn’t your usual Seven setup. For the first time ever, Seven was decked out in cabaret-style seating. It was tight. Ron presented a great event and showered it with his smooth, jazzy vocal styling.
