Now folks would tell me I’m a fool for thinking y’all would be bothered with jazz music. But anybody in the building at the Touhill for the Gregory Porter show on Saturday can tell you otherwise. I saw so many of my young, black and fabulous folks ready to get scatted down I barely knew what to do. LaShone Gibson and Makeba, Heather Himes, Vanita Applebum, Rebeccah Bennett and the list goes on. And with the help of St. Louis’ own Jahmal Nichols and Emmanuel Harrold, Gregory Porter did that. Don’t believe me? Ask any of the musician community who stopped through that will happily co-sign. I saw Stan Coleman, Chuck Flowers, Tiffany Elle and a gang of folks I have forgotten about. I may not remember their names, but I know we all got our life that night.
