Sisters had me in awe again Saturday at SHERAH’s one-year anniversary at the Regional Arts Commission in the Loop. SHERAH is a sister-to-sister support group that has enriched and uplifted many sisters.

It was founded by Shante Davis, who was dealing with some problems of her own. So she started SHERAH for other sisters needing a lil push. I know the brothers enjoyed themselves, because there was an array of beautiful sisters in the house.

They all received certificates for the dedication to SHERAH and the upliftment of one another. Shante’s mother and great-grandmother also received certificates for parts they played. As sisters received their awards, they had so many profound things to say about their sisterhood and their collective and individual growth. At the end, the sisters surprised Shante with a certificate. She couldn’t believe it, but girlfriend surely deserved it.
