It was so much goin’ on this weekend that all we needed were a few fake purse stands sprinkled around downtown and a bad weave parade for St. Louis to be mistaken for New York City. The Frankie Beverly Show, Ruben Studdard and Oleta Adams were just some of the concerts that had the Lou on and poppin’.

Frankie Beverly and company kicked it off in St. Charles on Friday for the St. Louis Music and Comedy Festival along with Vivian Green, Jagged Edge, G Thang and some other not so famous comedians. The show was good but the place was so empty that everyone had their own personal row! My question is why was it in St. Charles?

Y’all know that the only people that can even get black folks to UMB Pavilion (I’m sorry, now it’s the Verizon Such and Such place) is somebody like Mary or Earth, Wind and Fire. So why in the world would you expect us to trek to East Jesus, Missouri for some almost famous performers? People know Maze, but they come to town more times than my church’s motherboard hattitude luncheons and appreciation services put together. I think that they are supposed to be at the P-X Liquor in Baden next month. I wouldn’t be surprised.

I didn’t go to the Ruben Studdard show because he is supposed to be back in town next week for the Christopher Graffiti fashion show and the last thing your girl wants to give y’all is a repeat. So I decided to pass and see him the next go round. If he comes back again he might be the first recipient of the “Maze featuring Frankie Beverly I Can’t Keep My Tail Out Of St. Louis Award.”

The rumor, though, is that Frankie has a little somethin’ somethin’ in the Metro East, Alton to be exact. Can somebody e-mail me to confirm or deny?

The star studded weekend wrapped up with the Oleta Adams Too Much Information Special/Talk Show i.e. Community Women Against Hardship’s Fundraiser with the Oleta Adams Quartet.

She was fierce looking and sounding but all of that doggone talking was too much for TV! I don’t want to know how much money your daddy made as a preacher or that your guitar player is a baby-making machine, just get back to the singing. She added about a half-hour to her show. And every time I started to get up she would start talking about Jesus so I couldn’t leave without feeling bad.

But when she wasn’t talking, girlfriend was throwin’ down, both on the piano and with that show stopping voice of hers. She even had my girl Bonita Cornute singing along and getting her soul clap on.
