The US Bank Jazz Festival is still one of the best annual tickets in town, even though, this year, talented soul singer Peabo Bryson was on the bill. Some true jazz lovers scoffed at it, but I believe he brought out a lot of patrons, who aren’t necessarily into jazz. The end result was that jazzers got to hear a great voice in Peabo, who sang Brenda Russell’s (she cancelled) “Get Here.” On the other hand, soul fans heard blasts of jazz that will probably have them addicted. The reason Peabo was on the bill is because he’s actually on tour with Norman Brown and some other big-time jazz cats. Our homegirl, singer Lynn Fiddmont, is on tour with them doing vocals for Norm. Last year, Lynn played the Missouri Black Expo with Frankie Beverly and Maze. I guess she’s still hitting the road with various acts, though she released her debut solo joint last year. Anyway, can’t until next year’s Jazz Fest.
