I rolled through the Fox to see the stageplay, “Friends and Lovers,” based on Eric Jerome Dickey’s book, and it was nothing but your supposedly typical African-American relationship play. A couple of national actors were in the play, like Leon (famous for “Five Heartbeats” and “Waiting to Exhale”), and Mel Jackson (“Soul Food” and “Deliver Us from Eva”).

It’s cool to bring comedy and stories that we can relate to. It’s not cool to have people on stage acting like the only way they can have clear communication is to scream at one another and fight to resolve their problems. And why allow Leon to sing a song when that brother can’t hit a note? Brother, you’re my boy, but please don’t do that to yourself or ME no more.
