Cute and corporate must have been what folks were on this week, because before we held our Salute to Young Leaders, and the MPAC’s (not to be confused with the Eye Candy MPAC) annual Nothing But NETworking Happy Hour kicked the weekend off Thursday night at the Coliseum.  The event is a collaborative effort with what seems like every black professional organization under the sun. And I’m glad about the fact that they come together each year and give the folks who aren’t necessarily keen on tearing up the club an opportunity to mix and mingle with likeminded folks who are about their business.  Debbie Fleming, Larry Blue,  Christina Bailey of Radio One St. Louis, Roy Robinson,  Marlon Lee, Barry Neal,  Sarah Bryant, Bernard Whittington and Cedric Cobb were just some of the folks in the house to get their networking on. And while 99 percent of the folks knew exactly what corporate attire means, I feel the need to address that one percent who obviously don’t know what business casual actually means – excluding the promotional models, of course. Okay, so if you wouldn’t wear that airbrushed-on body dress to a job interview, don’t squeeze into it for the sake of business networking. And the same goes for the brother in the dusty jeans, skull cap and Jodeci boots. I feel like I have to stress that those isolated unprofessional fashion incidents were the EXCEPTION to the rule and that the event was indeed – and as usual – a classy affair full of folks about their business and dressed to par.
