Ladies Love Cool J (LL Cool J) is coming to the Pageant at 8 p.m., Wednesday, July 19. Tickets are $35 general admission and $40 for reserved balcony. Another Mix it Up Bridges Happy Hour (Building Bridges Over Racial Lines) is jumping off from 5-9 p.m., Friday, June 15 in The Outfield of the new Mike Shannon’s. That’s also where Stress-Free Fridays will be at the same. On Sunday, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., The Touhill is hosting an open house to announce its fourth season, which will feature everything from comedy to gospel. Snacks and tours will be available. On Sunday, June 18 from 1-9 p.m., Legacy Books and Café (5249 Delmar) has a Juneteenth celebration in conjunction with a special program recognizing fathers. Juneteenth, June 19th is recognized as the day when the last group of the enslaved Africans-N-America first learned of the Emancipation Proclamation that was delivered by President Abraham Lincoln years earlier. It is the day and time that is recognized as the day of Emancipation. Juneteenth signaled the day of families beginning to reunite and build a life of freedom and self-determination. By the way, the 4th of July is a celebration of America’s independence from Britain after British opportunists stumbled upon this land and did away with the Indians and shipped African slaves over here for free labor. Which should you be celebrating? Go figure.
