Well, here we are party people, reveling in 2007. This must be a lucky year. Lord knows 2006 was sometimes a devil of year. I made some good, new friends and some were hate-oholics like the enemies I made. But hey, it’s a new year, so out with the old, in with the new. That means keeping the good things going and making sure the bad gets going. Let me first pour out a little liquor (Bud Select, actually) for the clubs that didn’t pull through 2006. Let’s start with Toxic. Well, it’s been Sonny’s, Utopia, Façade and Liquid. Perhaps Toxic was the best name, since it seems to be a waste of money. But don’t count it out yet. The last owners almost found success, and I hear there may be a new one who has some good ideas. We also said goodbye to Mecca before we extended a solid greeting. It was a good idea, but the place started on hospice with a bunch of people trying to kill it – not to mention the overdose of anxiety to get the place popping before the skillet was properly greased. Formula got a makeover but never made it over the hill to success. It was a better-looking club though a little social-unfriendly with the split dance floors. Should have worked, but didn’t. The Spot, by trying to give youngsters a place to let loose, found them letting loose on the parking lot. Ditto for Plush. Let that be a lesson learned for drive- and walk-by shooters who have lost two phat joints.
