I had the opportunity to cackle with Facebook famous funny man Shuler King Sunday night at The Laugh Lounge. Co-owner Jessie Taylor already had me almost on the floor with jokes I would be arrested for repeating up in Partyline. But let me say this: the funny bone attached to my inner hood-rat could not have been more pleased. And when he got to talking about “The Box” (as in Channel 58 on analog television) and how some folks spent their teen years butchering Bone Thugs & Harmony lyrics, I felt right at home. Jessie set a little time aside for rising comic Richie to make his debut outside of Gong Show night. It was quite the tender moment when Jessie talked about how Cedric The Entertainer did the same thing for him at The Funny Bone back in the day. Jessie couldn’t have been old enough to drive back then. But let’s get back to the here and now. He was fearless, and he managed to get a chuckle out of the crowd, which is saying a lot for St. Louis. Shuler had me when he reintroduced himself in order to get the energy he desired – and kept me when he went in on the Kardashian clan. Oh, so I’m the only woman who has an aversion to them? That’s what I thought. I had quite the time, and he was shocked that he pulled decent crowds considering that baby tsunami we suffered through on the front end of the weekend.
