You can’t tell me that the only Venus envy is of white women. Well, you would have thought so if you attended the Venus Envy event this past weekend. I must admit it was hot, with great art, venues and entertainment, but I could count the number of black folks on one finger and the place was packed. One insider said there wasn’t a real effort to attract African Americans until two weeks before the event. I guess you can say they tried.
Whatever the cause, black folks missed a wonderful event. Kudos to Mallerie Zimmer, co-founder and executive director. As for the folks at the door who didn’t want the black press to slide in, attitudes like yours are part of the diversity problem at your event.
