Popular series opens April 28

“Spring is nature’s way of saying, ‘Let’s party!”

When irreverent funny man, Robin Williams uttered those words he could have been describing the attitude at your Missouri History Museum.

When springtime rolls around and we are deep into April, folks here are chomping at the bit to open your Missouri History Museum’s weekly party Twilight Tuesdays.

All winter, staffers here at the MHM run into fans of the free concerts that ask, “When do Twilight Tuesdays begin?”

Of course, we usually don’t have an answer in the dead of winter. After all, when it’s cold and snowy, Maurice Falls, Assistant Director of Community Education and Events, is just beginning to put together the acts. But winter is over and the wait is soon to be over.

Cardinals’ baseball great Rogers Hornsby once said, “People ask me what I do in winter when there’s no baseball. I’ll tell you what I do. I stare out the window and wait for spring.”

Well, my office window overlooks the north lawn of your Missouri History Museum, so in winter I stare out the window and wait for Twilight Tuesdays and now they’re almost here with returning sponsor, Clear Channel Radio whose President and Marketing Manager Dennis Lemme is hailing their return.

He said, “Clear Channel is a proud sponsor of one of St. Louis’ premiere cultural offerings that offers families a great way to enjoy an evening of music in one of our most beautiful parks for free.”

And now AmerenUE has really put a jolt into Twilight Tuesdays by signing on as the newest sponsor. The iconic St. Louis utility is making a large monetary contribution to help fund quality concerts for the next two years.

April 28 is the opening concert featuring the hugely popular Smash Band. Local media personality “Smash” leads this 12-piece group through a music menu that includes, country, rock, soul, and more. The group satisfies all tastes.

May 5 features the group, Freindz. It boasts a host of vocal talent including, Cheryl Brown, Jeremiah Allen, Amos Brewer and Carl Baines, all belting out the hits made famous by the likes of LaBelle, Beyonce, Rick James and Frankie Beverly and Maze. This is music for the dance crowd.

Week 3, May 12, the one and only Kim Massie will grace the stage. This lady always delivers a stellar performance as she transitions through her repertoire of blues, R & B, jazz, gospel and rock. If you’ve never seen Kim, you’re in for a treat and if you have, you’ll want to see her again.

If you were ever a fan of St. Louisan Michael McDonald and the Doobie Brothers then you won’t want to miss the Doobie tribute band, China Grove.

Guaranteed, if you turn your head away, you’ll swear it’s Michael and the Doobies. That’s May 19.

Remember your Missouri History Museum’s Twilight Tuesday sponsored by Clear Channel Radio and AmerenUE is always a family affair. Bring the kids and just groove with fans from all over the area while they are enjoying make-and-take activities. And if you don’t want to bring your own food and drink, it’s always for sale from Patty Long catering. You can even order gourmet box lunches and pick them up when you arrive. Call (314) 454-3154.

Extend your Memorial Day holiday for The Fabulous Motown Revue. May 26 will be filled with the “Motown Sound”.

This show draws huge crowds so come early to get the best spot.

Is there anything sweeter than a spring evening and the sounds of sweet jazz?

June 2’s headliner is “A Jazz Cavalcade with special guest Kirk Whalum”. Some of St. Louis’ best jazz musicians will help you mellow out at the outdoor jazz concert of the year.

Finally, June 9 we’ll all rock out to that incredibly popular band Dr. Zhivegas. You will not be able to keep your seat when they start rockin’.

Just like last year, there will be drawings and fun games for prizes supplied by both your Missouri History Museum and Clear Channel. Any rained out concerts will be rescheduled. Listen to the Clear Channel stations after 3 pm for weather information or call the Twilight Tuesdays Information Hotline (800) 916-8212 for weather updates.

The Missouri History Museum’s Twilight Tuesdays are back! It all starts April 28. It’s springtime. “Let’s Party!”

Last Take

Make-and-Take events for the kids begin a 6 p.m. so if you want to get them involved, come early. (There will be some fun prizes for early bird adults, too.)
