By the end of the day, “Money talk, bull [expletive] walks,” – the hook from the first new single from the St. Lunatics for their upcoming album City Free – was burned into the brains of everyone on site as the group shot their upcoming video yesterday (Mon., Apr. 19) in Fenton.
Through their success of putting the STL rap scene on the map around the world by way of their platinum-plus sales from Nelly and Murphy Lee individually and collectively as a group, they give legs to the bold statement that anchors their latest release.
“It’s a fun joint – a club banger,” Nelly said when asked to describe the single.
It’s also the first time that all of the Lunatics have been together to release an album. On the eve of their staggering and groundbreaking success, Lunatic member City Spud was sentenced to prison, which inspired them to name their debut major label release Free City.
As they gear up for the ten-year anniversary of the group’s debut major label release, the tables have turned – and so did the title of the project – which in part celebrates his release after 8 years of incarceration and City Spud hitting the ground running as a member of the ‘Tics.
“I’m excited and I’m ready,” Spud said on the set of the video.
He was soaking up every moment. It was something brand new for him even though it had become a routine experience for the rest of the group.
“Seeing him go through all of this for the first time makes this fresh and exciting all over again for us,” Murphy Lee said. “We’re happy to finally all be in it and doing this together.”
The single also features Cash Money’s Baby – who was also on location yesterday to take part in the shoot.
The single and the video are said to be slated for an early summer release.
“We’ve had much success with our music in the summer,” Nelly said. “So we feel like summer is our time.”
