Powell hosts melding of genres for Black History Month

The Saint Louis Symphony Orchestra and the IN UNISON Chorus – with conductor Robert Ray and special guests, Denise Thimes, Ptah Williams, Diane Bolden-Taylor and Rochelle Ellis – recently performed Lift Every Voice: A Black History Month Celebration at Powell Symphony Hall. The symphony’s collaboration with the chorus, drawn from 25 of the African-American community’s best church choirs, is annual. This year’s concert was notable for the inclusion of some of St. Louis’ hardest working and most devout jazz artists, as well as Bolden-Taylor, a native of East St. Louis who has sung on some of the world’s premiere operatic stages.
